warning: this is a semi-personal post.
it's 12am and i should be in bed since i need to wake up at 5:45am
but today, has been an awe-inspiring day.
well this weekend rather.
i started my little haiti fundraiser on a crazy whim knowing that i needed to do something. i couldn't just sit there and not do anything.
so i put myself out there, thinking that i'd be happy if i got 10 comments, and i'd totally just chip more in myself.
but when the comments started rolling in from 10 to 20 to 80 and so on,
you all have no idea how much joy and how happy i was that people were responding.
i literally cried three times on friday, because people were listening. friends thought i was nuts but i was as high as a kite. i know i don't have that money to fling around. but this is not flinging. this is for something that i know makes me satisfied. yes, i'm a shopaholic, but what gratification does that get me? it's only for myself.
this money raised is going somewhere. going somewhere where i know is going to help someone..someone in dire need. and it truly honestly makes me beam from ear to ear to say that i contributed to some degree.
i know my measly amount is hardly going to make a dent with what's really needed in Haiti. but i'd like to believe that every little helps and thanks to you guys for all the support, it seriously lit me up all weekend. had that extra oomph in my steps and anyone that had talked to me this past weekend knows how enthusiastic i was and would not stop talking about it.
so thank you so so much for all the support and the comments,
this is what you helped make happen:
$750 was raised!!
$325 will go to UNICEF and $325 will go to Doctors Without Borders!
if there's anything else i hope to be able to have done with this is:
i hope i've inspired someone else to do something about Haiti
whether it be a $10 contribution or a $1,000 or even something with your etsy shops, blogs, etc.
i urge you to do something...anything...don't just sit there.
as people we have a tendency to jump to action when something like this happens, and then when it settles, it goes to the back of your mind...
i want people to remember that Haiti is in trouble and needs our help. now, 6 months from now, 5 years from now. what they've gone through and what they need to do can not be done without your help.
i don't want people to forget like they're forgetting about New Orleans.
so do something. anything. seriously.
---
phew. so onto today.
today i was immersed in a place i was so blessed to have an opportunity to go to.
Making Things Happen Intensive.
with Lara Casey and Jeff Holt.
i knew i was going to a good thing from all the buzz before.
but seriously, roll your eyes all you want, but
my fire is LIT.
i am ready to go and change the game.
(more on this when it's not 12:40am and i need to sleep for work. so stay tuned.)
so thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart, Lara and Jeff.
this truly has been one of the best days of my life.

Lydia, I just got back into town and checked your blog. After reading this post (and your Haiti one), I want to reach across the internet and give you a humongous hug (will have to save that for Wed). What you did/are doing for Haiti is amazing, and I'm sorry that I missed your contribution campaign.
P.S. Hooray for your fire being lit. Yay!
Way to go Lydia! You did make a dent and more inportantly a difference! I'm so happy for you as well and am glad I got to be a part of it,even though it was just a post and a few retweets. I think about what you are donating like this...if it goes to help to rescue, feed, or help just one person...then that is one person who might not have had a tomorrow other wise. You should be very proud of yourself and what you accomplished! My wife and I are certainly proud of you. Great job Lydia!
@miki no worries! happy belated and i hope you had fun! can't wait to see you tomorrow!
@brian thank you so very much for your words. you guys certainly helped my drive and enthusiasm to support. thank you thank you thank you!
that's awesome lydia! thank you for doing this! bless your heart!
So amazing and proud of you... I know that Doctors without borders is an incredible organization. YAY you!
Good for you Lyds!
